Introduction

Star Gallery is pleased to present Teppei Kaneuji's solo show “Ghost in the Liquid Room” in Art Basel Hong Kong 2018 at Booth 3D46.

This solo presentation of the Japanese artist Teppei Kaneuji focuses on an ongoing series, “Ghost in the Liquid Room”. Over a dozen pieces will occupy the booth in a playful manner, either hanging down from above or protruding out from the wall, reflecting upon the overwhelming, image-saturated culture of Asia. In this series, Kaneuji has made sculptures with image clippings of melted metal, chocolate, blood, and assorted gooey cosmetic products of diverse colors which are then adhered to wooden panels in elegant 2D or 3D constructions, creating connections between consumer goods and masterpieces of contemporary art – Dali-esque sculptures or Alexander Calder’s mobiles.

Teppei Kaneuji, born in 1978 in Kyoto, received his MA in sculpture at Kyoto City University of Arts. He collects everyday objects and uses existing images to create sculptures with a collage-like methodology”.

Hand-colored No.2 by Lei Lei and Thomas Sauvin will be presented  in the short film program of the Film sector, at Hong Kong Arts Centre from 4pm-5:20pm, on Fri 30 Mar, and rerun at 6:30pm at N102-N103, HKCED.
