Introduction
On the cusp between summer and autumn of 2019, the shooting of Qiu Jiongjiong’s 7th film based on the life his lengendary grandfather, Sichuan opera actor Qiu Fuxin – The Neo-New Adventures – kicked off in the artist’s hometown, Leshan. Just like his paintings, the feature film has carried on the artist director’s “spirit of the clown” by depicting the history of a renowned actor of Southern Sichuan with his characteristic language of exaggeration, hallucination and playfulness.
A year later, in September 2020, Qiu Jiongjiong left his hometown for Beijing, a city he used to dwelled for a long time, and turned the VIP room of Star Gallery into a temporary studio named “Jiaoma”, where he finished the post production of the film while taking it as the resource of a series of relevant visual works. In the meantime, Qiu Jiongjiong, the master of Jiaoma Studio, has been inviting friends here to admiring paintings, cross-interrogating, drinking tea or liquor, feasting, playing mahjong… …
